Perched on a steeply inclined site, this sun-kissed St. Thomas vacation home proved to be a designer’s dream. It’s a tropical idyll, seductive and soothing…just the sort of place where you immediately open the doors and fall under the spell of sea breezes and never-ending vistas across the blue, blue sea.

Casual comfort was a guiding principle in creating these interiors. A smart mix of rattan and wicker, bamboo and teak combine in a show of support for the indigenous styles of the Caribbean. A Persian rug and classic mahogany dining room table and chairs make subtle reference to the island’s heritage at the crossroads of the new and old worlds. The colors and patterns specified for the bedroom textiles mimic the lush native landscaping that abounds. In the kitchen, Maddalena used a dark stained mahogany on classic, raised-panel cabinet doors topped with granite. Tiles of honed marble, glass and ceramic are used here and throughout the house.
